Family Disasterz

Well crap. Here we are trying to be good grandparents, thinking we can rescue the 11-yr old from her drug addled mother, and the child says no, she doesn't want to come live with us. Has she become so independent? Has she become the parent to her mother, who is (and always will be) unemployed? Her stap-father isn't much better. Supposedly & reportedly self employed (ha) but they are existing off their meager tax return money and $800 a month in food stamps. As parents & grandparents who are comfortable, why can't we just let that go? Do we just let it ride til she gets busted or ends up in the hospital from the abuse? What words do you give someone who continues to put drugs in their system, causing them to die a slow death? She hears nothing we say as logic- spends alot of effort and energy telling us to mind our own business, yet calling every week with some new malady and asking for help. I think I am on the verge of selling the house, leaving it all behind and moving too far away to drive in one day. Then I realize we can't leave my 66 year old mother alone to deal with this crap. She's not handling any of it very well either. I am open to suggestions... but I am not open to spending another 5-grand for the 'rehab' trip.

Drama Queen

As we find ourselves just mere hours away from Christmas, the latest episode of the "Anti-Walton's Mountain" is in full swing. Near the footlights- the little one, wondering where has her mother run off to this time and why has she not called? From backstage behind a leg, the elderly grandmother tries to soothe it away with promises of happy meals and playtime. At center stage, as the spotlight dims, is the drama queen. It is the eve of her birthday, she is stressed, she needs a break from the daily toil as mother, wife and floorsweeper. The drama queen's lament begins to raise in pitch, and as she loads an overnight case and lipstick into the car, backing out of the drive, her whining now at fever pitch is also tinged with 'I'm sorry- but I must leave for a short time". Having heard this particular act many times before, much of it falls on deaf ears, or rather, ears that have better things to listen to than this verbal piano string. Words that should be added to the drama queen's dialogue before performing the same act again-- responsibility, gainful employment, and medication. (sigh) Good night, John Boy, and good luck.
xo- a Redhead acting up...

The Road Map

This is how I found myself in this place in space and time...
many moons ago I signed up for yahoo, which I really don't remember to check but once a month. I had also discovered 'pearls before swine' and was mad about it! What a great toon, second only to Calvin & Hobbs (sorry, Pastis) and was so enamored, I actually ordered a mouse pad with pig and rat on it. (Should rat get top billing?) Then I got lost, wandered from the path of LOL and trudging through the tundra, I have found my way back- to yahoo, to PBS and now to a new journey here on Live Journal. Maybe they could rename it Live Journey?
